Early Life

Serenay Sarıkaya was born on July 1, 1992, in Ankara, to Seyhan Umran and Mustafa Sarikaya. Until she was seven, she lived with her family in Antalya, but her parents separated. When her father remarried, she moved to Istanbul with her mother.

In an interview, she shared her experience of growing up without her father, saying, “For a little girl, a father is a special factor in her evolution. Growing up without your father is a big experience.” During that time, she and her mother decided to settle in Istanbul, influenced by Sarıkaya’s dream of becoming an actress and a model. She studied and graduated from the theatre department of the Fine Arts High School but did not go on to attend university.

Sarıkaya is passionate about sports, being an avid player of volleyball and basketball. She also has an interest in tennis and Latin dance. At the age of fifteen, she took part in the European Junior Beauty Contest held in Czechia and received a special prize from the jury.

Career

In 2006, Serenay Sarıkaya started acting in a movie called Şaşkın, directed by Şahin Alpaslan. Following that, in 2008, she appeared in a Turkcell commercial and acted in her second film, Plajda, produced by Sinan Çetin and directed by Murat Şeker.

That same year, Sarıkaya got her first leading role in the TV series Peri Masalı, where she played a fairy godmother. She also appeared in the series Limon Ağacı and the TV series Adanalı, where she received praise for her portrayal of a Greek-Turkish girl with a unique accent.

Sarıkaya took part in the Miss Turkey beauty contest in 2010, representing Ankara, and became the first runner-up. Although she earned the chance to represent Turkey in the Miss Universe contest, she decided to focus on her acting career instead.

Leaving Adanalı in its second season, Sarıkaya joined the cast of Lale Devri, where her singing in one episode attracted attention. Despite offers to record an album, she chose to stick to acting. In 2011, she starred in the short film Hoşçakal, and in 2012, she left Lale Devri at the beginning of its third season.

Sarıkaya appeared in the movie Behzat Ç. Ankara Yanıyor in 2013 and joined the cast of the series Medcezir alongside Çağatay Ulusoy. She also appeared in commercials for Elidor and became the face of Mavi Jeans.

From 2017 to 2018, Sarıkaya starred in the show Fi, based on novels by Azra Kohen. She served as the brand ambassador for Head & Shoulders during this time. In 2019, Sarıkaya made her theatrical debut in the musical Alice Müzikali. She continued her role after a break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
